    What does it mean?

Maybe the sentence is not clear enough. I'll repeat it more clearly as follow:

Because Judy was hit by a car, Eric wanted to check in.
(Eric wasn't hit by a car and didn't have to get any treament)

What does 'check in' mean here?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: What does it mean?

    If its a noun:
The act of reporting your presence (as at an airport or a hotel)

    If its a verb:
Announce one's arrival, e.g. at hotels or airports

here it seems to be a verb.
    i.e. Announce Eric's arrival.

Do you mean, 'check up on her, see how she is doing in hospital'?
