    How long ago is "the other day"??

    Are we talking a week, a couple days? Can it be a month ago??

    Hello Unreg,

    I would say "yesterday" is too close, and "10 days ago" perhaps too far.

    That said, the phrase allows us not to be specific; that's where its usefulness lies.

    I think it was Juan del Encina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia who started a lecture (after several years' incarceration by the Inquisition) with the words Dicebamus hesterno die... (`[As] we were saying the other day...'
