    Tenses

    Hi - I just wanted to know why foreign students confuse their tenses - ie use present for past tense activities?

    Second language tense errors generally have to do with how tense is realized/expressed in one's first language.

    I agree with Soup. Also, language teaching tends to avoid past tenses until several years into the enterprise, which is unrealistic. So people have a habit of using what is familiar.
