    Cool Please check

    Hello,

Can we say for example that: my slippers are darker than my brother's?

Or sould we rather say: my slipper(s?) colour is darker than my brother's?

    Thanks a lot

    W

There's no need for the word color here. The resulting construction is fairly awkward, not to mention grammatically wrong. Think carefully about exactly what you are comparing: it sounds as though you are comparing the color of your slippers with the color of your brother! You would have to say something like this: The color of my slippers is darker than that of my brother's. Trust me--it's not getting any better.

My slippers are darker than my brother's
is quite clear and is what most native speakers would say.
