    Wink 2 questions

    Hi there,

Can we say "shut UP your mouth"?

Can we say "2 pieces of fabrics" (if there are two different types of fabric)? Or will be better to say: 2 different pieces of fabric?

    Thanks
    W

    Re: 2 questions

Or will be better to say: 2 different pieces of fabric? YES

Can we say "shut UP your mouth"

That isn't the colloquial expression; but what they say in songs and on the Internet with language is not bound by grammatical rules or social conventions.

(There was a hit parade song in Australia, back in the 70s (I believe), in which the efforts of Italian migrants learning English was made fun of: "Shut Uppa Ya Face.")

    Thanks David.

I believe the common expressions are either "Shut up" or "shut your mouth", am I right?

    Re: 2 questions

Let's just say, yes, they are the expressions. How commonly they are used depends on how much store each person places on not having a broken nose.
