    EFFECT: noun (=influence, consequence)
    e.g.

    It is having a bad effect on the economy.

    & verb (= bring about)

    They are endeavoring to effect a major change in the political system.

    AFFECT: verb only
    1. = to have an effect [as above] upon
    e.g.

    How has this problem affected you?

    2. = to feign

    He affected great knowledge of these issues, while in reality he knew little about them.
