    lawyer = shark ?

    Hi!

    I read a joke online about "Professional Courtesy", Lawyer Jokes - Professional Courtesy I know that the sharks did not hurt the lawyer because of this "Professional Courtesy", that is to say, the lawyer is a type of shark.

    But what I can not figure out is, why is lawyer a type of shark? Could you have a look for me? Many thanks!

    Here the lawyers are being considered sharks, as both never leave their victims unhurt. The shark kills, while out noble friends in black coats charge so much fees that..............

    Re: lawyer = shark ?

    Likening lawyers to sharks is not uncommon. A shark is a predator. A related idomatic phrase is 'a loan shark' (not a lawyer, but someone who lends money at extortionate rates of interest to desperate people, and exacts payment mercilessly - hence the synonym 'leg-breaker').
