    Question I is not PLURAL!

"He", "she" and "it" are singular so we use an S at the end of the verb in present tense and use IS.
"We", "you", and "they" are plural so we don't add an S at the end of the verb and use ARE.
BUT "I" is singular!! Then why do we have to use the "plural" forms?

    Re: I is not PLURAL!

I is first-person singular. You don't use the same verb ending for all singular - only third-person singular takes the S.

    1st person singular: I
    2nd person singular: you
3rd person singular: he, she, it, etc.

    1st person plural: we
    2nd person plural: you
    3rd prson plural: they

    To round this off:

    1st person singular: I write
    2nd person singular: you write
3rd person singular: he, she, it writes

    1st person plural: we write
    2nd person plural: you write
    3rd person plural: they write
That's quite different from the declension of 'to be':
    1st person singular: I am
    2nd person singular: you are
3rd person singular: he, she, it is

    1st person plural: we are
    2nd person plural: you are
    3rd person plural: they are
