    What's the difference?

    Hi, there
Could you tell me what the difference among in the bottom, on the bottom and at the bottom is?
    Thank you for your help.

on the bottom - the lowest part of something seen as the surface
at the bottom - the lowest, furthest, or deepest part of something seen as the point in space

There's a label on the bottom of the mug. [outside]
There's some dirt at the bottom of my mug. [inside]

Please put your name at the bottom of each page.
She lives at the bottom of the street.
He was standing at the bottom of the hill when I first saw him.

in the bottom could mean that something is inside the bottom part (surface) of something.

Thank you for your help, engee 30. But I still don't understand how to use the phrase in the bottom. Your explanation of it sounds a little confusing to me. Would you make it clearer, please? An example may help. Thanks.

Look! There's something sewn in the bottom of the bag. [right inside the bottom of the bag]
You've got a big hole in the bottom of your shoe. [right through the bottom of your shoe]

Again, thanks for your help, engee30. But I still have a relevant question. The other day, I saw a sentence in a book: I can't take out the spoon because it is in the bottom of the bottle. I'm wondering if "in" is misused in the sentence. Hope you can help me work it out. Thanks.

Yeah, the sentence is fine. Sorry I didn't write anything like saying that it's correct. In the bottom of something doesn't only mean that something is inside something.
