    thought/had thought

If an English forum member has not been participating in the forum for a long time, and I wrote him a private message about why he had been absent from the forum and he replied that he was on holiday and returned recently. He also told me he would be participating in the forum soon. Could I reply him as follows:

I had thought that you had for some reason or other stop participating in the English forum.

Is using 'had thought' wrong? Should I just write 'thought'?

    Thanks.

    Re: thought/had thought

    "I thought that .... " would suffice.
    Regards.

    Re: 'thought/had thought and 'stop'

If an English forum member has not been participating in the forum for a long time, and I wrote him a private message about why he had been absent from the forum and he replied that he was on holiday and returned recently. He also told me he would be participating in the forum soon.

Could I reply him as follows?

I had thought that you had for some reason or other stop participating in the English forum.

Is using 'had thought' wrong? Should I just write 'thought'?
Should it be 'stop' or 'stopped'?

Could a native speaker member confirm that the answers given by the above members are correct?

    Many thanks.

    Re: thought/had thought

Here is the answer to your question if I understood it properly.

I thought that because of some other reason you might have stopped participating in the English forum.
