    contemplative

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following excerpt from an English text?

There is no subject that more frequently occupies the attention of the contemplative than man: yet there are many circumstances concerning him that we shall hardly admit to have been sufficiently considered.

"Man is the most excellent and noble creature of the world, the principal and mighty work of God, the wonder of nature, the marvel of marvels.”

contemplative (noun) = a person given to contemplation, a person devoted to the contemplative life

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V.

    Dear vil:

Yes, you are correct. 'The contemplative life' can mean the life of a monk or nun in a cloistered setting, but can also refer to anyone seriously given to contemplation.
