A question put to Bbok, plz

    Dear Bbok,
'England South East' has always put mysterious ideas in my mind! I'm horribly interested in BrE and I've done all I could,...but I wish you could imagine what hard a task it is to do it on your own! I've got a lot of problem getting my pupils interested in this version of English, and Ive got to a point I feel it as a part of my duty! Could you kindly introduce me a pack of materials (for all 4 skills) in BrE? Btw, soon we'll have an international bookfare in Tehran...Should I be looking for any material recently published on issues related to accents? Thank you so much!

Sorry, I have very little classroom experience. I usually teach 1:1, and don't use or recommend any particular set of materials. Try the British Council....?

Language can only stir students' interest insofar as they actually experience it, Mehrgan. Also, it takes EFL students quite a few years before they can really recognise or even adopt a particular variety of English. For example, almost none of my Hong Kong students, aged 11-18, and who had studied English for 4-10 years, were able to speak in a way that was distinctly British or American.

If, on the other hand, you manage to get your students interested in English in general, you've done marvellously well. A good show!
