    Two questions

    Hello all.

    Two easy questions:

    1. Aplications for the job must be received by 18 May.
Am I right that by 18 May pronouncing...by the eighteen of May? May I say it in this way...received on May eighteen?

    2. I come from Moscow.
    Where do you come from?
I wonder why we have to use the present tense?

I'm guessing that answers might be easy but very helpful for me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Two questions

    I am not a teacher.
Actually, I have discussed it till my mind went numb.
It's not about the NEED, it's about what sounds like we're talking and not shooting.

"Where you come from" canNOT be a question. It's a statement.
"Where do you come from?" This makes it a question.

1.Applications for the job must be received by May, the 18th. (it means by the 18th of May)
    2. "Where do you come from" means "Where are you from?". That's why we use present simple here.

It is still not clear for me.
"Where are you from?" This question is constructed in common way.
"Where do you come from?" You have just arrived to London and someone asking you this question...why do instead of did.
And if there's a rule (may be exception) then could I say: Where did you come from? in other circumstances.

PS In my first publication I missed th at the end of eigtheen.

Where do you come from? has nothing to do with coming or visiting a country. The person who asks you this question wants to know your nationality or citizenship.
