    baby name

Hi.. i'm wondering if anyone can help me with a little family debate. I am currently pregnant with my second child, a girl. The name i would like to give her has an unusual spelling but i like it cause it is unique. The name is "Mayhgen" which i pronounce like the common name Magen. I believe the H is silent but everyone else insist on making fun of the name.

Can someone please tell me how you wouldprononce this name in the spelling I like "Mayhgen"?

    Thank you very much.

    Dear yoselyn:

I would pronounce it may-gen (with a 'hard' 'g' as in 'girl). Of course, you have a perfect right to name your child anything you choose and spell the name anyway you think is best. Remember, however, that your child may grow weary of having to spell out her name all her life for every person who has to write it down. Of course, if she does tire of this, she can always change the spelling to something more familiar.

All best wishes for a safe pregnancy and birth,

    Petra
