1) He held his fingers out.
2) He stuck his fingers out.
Can someone please tell me the difference between the above two sentences? Does any of them mean the fingers were apart? Please suggest other alternatives, if any.
He 'stuck' his fingers out suggests a more aggressive gesture than he 'held' his fingers out. It holds the sense of a jabbing motion, whereas 'held his fingers out' brings a calmer, more static image to mind.
