What sould i put after Dear_______ if i am writing an acceptance letter into a scholars program at my university. I do not know exactly who will be reading this letter or whether it will be one person or a pannel of people.
It is not entirely necessary to even have a salutation, especially if you don't know to whom you are writing.
If you are sure it is to one person of indeterminate gender, the old Dear Sir or Madam works. If you know the person's title, but not gender, you might say, Dear President.
If it's to a committe that has a name, then Dear Members of the Executive Committee would suffice.
If you are writing an acceptance, then I am assuming something was offered to you, in writing. Who sent it?
Another solution is to phone first. Phone whatever department you are addressing and ask outright, to whom should I address my letter?
