    past or present perfect?

    John: Judy looks sad. What has happened to her?
    Tom: ______________________.
    (A) She has missed the bus.
    (B) She missed the bus.
    Which option is correct?

    This question is prejudiced by the fact that present perfect is used by John.

    Most North Americans would say...
    Judy looks sad. What happened to her?
    She missed the bus.

    Having said that, either answer would be correct. There is no reason two people in a conversation have to use the same tense.
    It's a bad test question.
