    Need help in wording...

I am writing a petition and need some help in the wording:

Is it appropriate to start it off like this?

"I am writing to petition a retroactive withdrawal for the classes I was registered in for the following semesters."

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Need help in wording...

    How about:

"I am writing to request a retroactive withdrawal status for the classes registered during the following semesters."

    Re: Need help in wording...

    Thank you susiedqq!!

I'm still curious about using the word "petition" in this case. "Request" certainly sounds more courteous, but would using "petition" be incorrect? Also, for the retroactive withdrawal part, I've never heard of "retroactive withdrawal status" before. I always thought that retroactive withdrawal implied to the act of withdrawing from classes after the grades were posted, and reading it as a "status" was new to me. Sorry, I'm just a bit confused (I guess I'm overanalyzing). Thank you for your help anyway.

    Re: Need help in wording...

Usually, completed classes receive a grade or an I is given for Incomplete or a WD is noted in the file when the student withdraws from the program.

You are asking them to give you WD on these classes. That will be the "status" of your records.
