    Difference in meaning

    Can you please let me know how each of the following sentences is different in meaning?

    1. I will go abroad at the end of 2009
    2. I will go abroad towards the end of 2009
    3. I will go abroad by the end of 2009

    1. I will go abroad at the end of 2009 -- nearer to the end of 2009 than in #2
    2. I will go abroad towards the end of 2009 -- near the end of 2009,
    3. I will go abroad by the end of 2009 -- at the end of 2009 or before

    There are no distinct definitions for borders, IMO.
