    Usage of move aside

There is a book placed on a suitcase. I want to open the suitcase. Please tell me if the following sentences describe it correctly.

    1) I moved the book aside from the suitcase and opened the case.
    2) I moved the book off the top of the suitcase and opened the case.
    3) I took the book off the top of the suitcase and opened the case.

    Dear daemon:

Since you write the book, I am assuming the reader/listener already knows it's there. Of course, what you are trying to do is avoid confusion about which is opened, the book or the suitcase.
    So:

I moved the book and opened the suitcase.

I picked up the book and opened the suitcase.

I put the book on the (floor, table, chair, etc.) and opened the suitcase.

I moved the book aside and opened the suitcase.

I removed the book and opened the suitcase.

In a rage, I swept the book aside and tore open the suitcase. Oops! I'd better stop now

    All best wishes,

    Petra
