    please help with this sentence

"After the hurricane, many of the offices needed new carpeting."

I came to know this is simple sentence, but what is the role of "after the hurricane" in the sentence. Is it subject or...?
why we need comma after that? I think "many of the offices" is subject.

After the hurricane functions as time adverbial answering to the question When?. Time adverbials normally go at the end of the sentence. When placed in frontal position, they are usually separated from the rest of the sentence by a comma.

Thanks a lot engee30. I have one more question. What do these group of words represent "Thank you very much" ? Is it a phrase (which phrase) or clause?
