    Question Difference

    What is the difference between if i said...
    1- I was sleeping when you called.
    2- i have been sleeping when you called.

    1. I was sleeping when you called. (At the time you called I was in the middle of sleeping. I may or may not have woken up, so I may have missed your call. If I did answer your call, I probably plan to go back to sleep afterward.)

    2. I had been sleeping when you called. (Up until the time that you called, I was sleeping. When you called, the sleeping ended.)

    Because there's the past tense in your sentence so you have to use Past Perfect (I had been) instead of Present Perfect (I have been).
