once i asked my American friend this question:
Is that possible?
she asked me:
is what possible?
now i want to ask:
why she said : is what possible?.. and didn't say: what is possible?
ok. but why she said :
Is what possible?..
and didn't say:
What is possible?..
A wild guess, but perhaps to preserve your original order?
A: She said he's going to kill you, you'd better go to your brother's.
B: She said what?
the word `what` is the subject of the question that she asked you.and she didnt know what was the subject that you were refering to so she tried to clarify what the subject was but in a question form.in grammar it is known as an echo question, used to clarify something that was said before.`is that possible?`,your subject was `that`,she didnt know what that was,so it was chaneg to `what`,and she sked you to clarify what `that` was.
i am with you..
and i understand you..
but why she did'nt say: what is possible?..
why she inverted the question to: is what possible?
Hi Mhd shaher
