    punctuation

    where would I insert a comma in the following sentences?
    1.I mailed another entry but it did not arrive before the deadline.
    2.Although the number of computer owners has soared the number of computer repairmen has increased only slightly.

    Thanks soup for your reply but I'm still left puzzeled as I still do not know whether I need commas for both sentences or not.This is not home work .I was just making a response to a letter that accused me of a late response.

    In the first one, a strict prescriptivist would tell you you need a comma before "but" -- I don't find it necessary.

    In the second one, it will be more clearer if you add a comma after "soared."
