    participles and verbs

Could someone please clarify for me why there does not need to be a 'to be' verb in the first sentence but if you change the word 'find' to 'think' (for example) you now need the 'to be' verb?

    I find nature films fascinating
I think nature films are fascinating

    Re: participles and verbs

I find nature films (to be) fascinating = SVOC
I think (that) nature films are fascinating = SVO

In the first sentence the ellipted infinitive clause is a complement to the verb.
In the second, the "that" clause, a subordinate clause, is the object.

The two verbs will follow different verb patterns.

I am a little vague as to the true meaning of a participle.I know that it is part verb and part something else, and can be used as an adjective or even an noun.Any information on its meaning or origins, would be useful.
