According to the info I have read a comma should be put infront of the which clause if that clause can be omitted.
In the following sentence I believe that there should not be a comma before the word which is this correct?
"The first tool in music notation we learn about is the staff which acts as the
underlying bone structure in the music language."
thanks for your time in advance,
underlying bone structure in the music language)."
This clause is giving extra information and not defining informationabout the staff and therefore can be omitted.
If it was necessary information then it would imply that there was more than one staff i.e. the one which acts as the underlying bone structure and the other one which .........
