    'an' or 'a'??

    Does the word 'an' go before the letter 'h' as well as the vowels?

    Depends if the "h" is silent or not.

    • A snake makes a hissing sound.
    • The is a his and hers clothing store.
    • She's had a hysterectomy.
    • We have a history lesson after lunch.
    • This is a historical moment.
    • This is an historical moment. (<h> is not pronounced; <i> is devoiced)
    • He's an hysterical comedian. (same as above)
