Smile the meaning of the word 'neat'

What is the meaning of the word 'neat' in the following sentence?
    * I approached a small neat house which I was sure must be a parsonage.

    Thanks in advance.

It was fairly plain and unadorned, probably had a door in the centre with a window on either side and three on the first floor, rather like this one: Google Image Result for http://www.shropshirestar.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/sd3030346old-rectory.jpg

I think it means clean and tidy. The origin of the word is the French nette, meaning clean.
