    What's the difference between 'house' and 'household'?

    He used to be the head of the household.
    His wife was the head of the house.

    household [countable]

    all the people who live together in one house [= house]: A growing number of households have at least one computer.
    Families are classified by the occupation of the head of the household (=the person who earns the most money and is most respected in a house).

    I don't think that you should use #1 instead of #2.
    Some people might mistook #1 as "the head of the House."

    the House [sing.] the House of Commons or the House of Lords in Britain; the House of Representatives in the US
