    There's an unofficial rule here that you have to have a go yourself before we give you the answer.
    But I can tell you it's not 2. or 3.

    Furthermore, you can't tell--just by looking at it in isolation like that--if it's a gerund or a present participle unless you know where it sits in the sentence. For example:

    Gerund (a subject or an object)
    Subject: Typing is fun.
    Object of a verb: I like typing.
    Object of a preposition: This time is for typing.
    Present Participle (part of a verb or an adjective)
    Verb: I was typing when you called.
    Adjective: I need typing paper.
