    Post Singular or plural?

    "In tropical forests, there are many insects. Some of these insects can cause disease."
    Why isn't "disease" in plural form?

    It could have been.
    But "disease" can be a non-count noun. Compare:
    Some of these insects can cause illness / sickness / ill-health.

    When it's uncountable, it denotes a general concept rather than an individual sickness.
