    "It would have to do."

    " she added a bit of pepper and other seasonings, but by the end, it looked almost boring as it had before she started. Never mind, it would have to do."
    I don't understand the phrase it would have to do, Can u please explain it for me. Thanks so much!

    I suppose that it means task done in this instance. That is certainly how I would use it !

    To be clearer : 'would' is a modal, it is not absolute, so it's like a guess at the truth. ' It should do' is the same. or to put it in the future ' it will do' or it's finished as far as I am going to do it.

    Put it another way; if you have a car and it stops working on the way home on a wet and windy night, it will do as long as the car can be started again and gets you home ... it dosn't matter about the speed or noise it might make ..... you just want tokeep dry and get home and into bed. Anything would do as long as the car moves.
