    Exclamation that

    Hello there.

Discover what your students do not know and then try to explain it to them in a way that everyone will understand.

    How does this "that" function?
Is this a relative pronoun? then where is the antecedent?

Could anybody help me with this sentence please?

The red part is a nominal relative clause functioning as the object of the verb 'discover'.

The blue part is an adjectival relative clause that describes, restricts the scope of 'a way'. that is a relative pronoun which functions as the object of the verb 'understand'. that also refers back to its antecedent: 'a way'.

    Hope this helps.
