    when

    Consider this sentences:
1-I can't tell when he is in a bad mood.
2-I don't realize when he is in a bad mood.

    Are they correct?
Do they mean that when he is in a bad mood, I can't tell that he is in a bad mood?

The first one is good English. The second is not used. Yes, it means that when he is in a bad mood you don't know it.

    Re: when

You can use "realize" in, for example, the following sentence:
I didn't realize he was in a bad mood.

Why is that? Search me. (I don't know.)

    [Edited for spelling.]

"I don't realize" is reflexive. It means, I'm not aware of what I'm thinking. For example, I don't realize what I am doing (I'm not aware of what I am thinking, and that's making me do this. )

EX: She doesn't realize he's in a bad mood.
(She is not aware of the situation)

    But,

    EX: *I don't realize he's in a bad mood.
(I am not aware of my own thoughts)
