what does " to keep it casual" mean?

Here is the context. Quoted from Desperate housewives.

I am crazy about you. So I am thinking we should keep it casual.

Apparently, it refers to casual sex without any commitment.

In the quirky context of Desperate Housewives, this can be seen to be ironic. Normally, in romantic situations, one would expect something like "I am crazy about you. So I am thinking we should get married."
However, all the housewives have been hurt in love, and are somewhat jaded. So being crazy about someone is a reason not to become more committed.
This is a well-written line, because it builds up suspense to the ending: the viewers expect to hear the conventional ending (as does the housewife), but it turns out to be a more original and mutually-desired proposition.
