    What is the meaning of 'captured the imaginations' and 'have a powerful hold on the human imagination' in the following examples ?

    ex1) The legend has had a powerful hold on the human imagination.
    ex2) They captured the imaginations of the audience.

    They both mean "provoked a huge amount of interest," even a fascination.
