    takes my crazy calls

Please help me understand the following in bold.

    1. Equally important are my mentors, the group that takes my crazy calls and finds a way to squash the bad ideas and give life to the few good ones.

    2. Remember not to have a fatal accident, because the community will think climbing is a dangerous thing, your friends will be bummed..... and you'll be dead. ---Kitty Calhoun

Is the above saying "don't remember to have a fatal accident?" It sounds strange to me. In fact, the whole passage is confusing. Would you please paraphrase in easier English? You don't have to explain the meaning of each word.

    Thank you.

"to take a call" means to accept a telephone call. Someone rings you on the phone with some crazy idea, and you take the call.

    no.
it means "remember this: Don't have a fatal accident". It's meant to be ironic.
If you do have a fatal accident, several unwanted consequences will result: i) the community will think climbing is a dangerous thing, ii) your friends will be bummed, iii) you'll be dead.

    it sounds strange to me.
it is strange because it's supposed to be funny.
