Hello I'm 'The French',I am not a teacher, but "thee children" is the good use.

    I explain you:

Children is the plural form of child.
Child is one girl or one boy (singular form)

You don't need the 's with children, it's already plural form (irregular).

    Have a nice day.

    Hello,

Normally, you add a "s" to obtain the plural forms, but some words have irregular forms, and it's like the irregular verbs for simple past and past participle, you must learn it by heart.

    It's the only way.

    Don't give up.

    Have a nice day.

You can't know unless you consult a dictionary, or wait until you have acquired more experience.
    But here are some clues:
If the verb is plural, then the subject will be.
The child is playing in the park.
The children are playing in the park.

If you know that a noun has two forms, one with an 's' and one without, the form with 's' will be a plural. dog/dogs.
Sometimes the singular and plural are the same. Even a native speaker cannot tell whether there is only one animal or more in the following:
He is playing with the sheep. What have you done with the fish.
In cases like this, you have to rely on the context.
