Thread: The two of us

    The two of us

How about the two of us go there and talk?

I am very uncomfortable with 'THE' being used here. Can I delete it and make it as:

How about two of us go there and talk?

Somebody may say 'the two of us' indicates if 'us' means more than two people, the speaker is refering to two specific people among us and may not have himself included. Is that explanation right?
    Thank you.

Absolutely right. "The two of us" indicates a very specific pair of people. "Two of us" is undefined and diffuse - It could be any two of a group.
