Hi,
Could anyone help me with the sentences in bold? Thanks a lot.
Bird maintains that the ways in which female respondents actively insert tabloid narratives into their lifes are directly linked to the affirmation of familial ideology. The phrase "victims of spouse abuse" means that their husbands beat them. The phrase "lack of money" means, of course, that they don't have a lot of money to spend. I'm not sure what generalized oppression of being an "old-fashioned housewife"' means except that they are not "liberated" women.
