    When to use Understanding and understandings

    Hi Teachers out there;

    I am glad to find this forum which I can ask and discuss some grammtical
    rules in English.

    Many times, I am confuse when to use " understanding" & " Understandings" .

    Below are few more examples;

    1. when to use "work" & "works"
    2. When to use "working" & "workings"
    3. Should use "repair work " or "repair works"

    Hope to hear from you guys soon.

    Thnks
    Edwardsp

    Hello, Welcome to the forum.

    In most cases the first alternative without the 's' would be better. If I were in doubt, I'd use that as a default. In many cases, it does not matter.
    "Have you finished the repair work" means the same as "Have you finished the repair works".
    Perhaps you could post some sentences in which you are not sure which form to use.
