If I say "A and B groups", is plusal form neccessary for "group"?

Yes, the plural form is necessary if they are two separate groups. (that is A group and B group)

Btw, why "the" is needed here? I am trying to use article correctly but fail many times. I think "plural form" is neither specific nor belong to the group of nouns that "the" is required.

For nouns there is a singular form and a plural form (usually).
So you know that there is a specific form for the plural; and you ask "What is the plural form?"
This is a bit confusing, because we also say "'Group' is singular and 'groups' is plural" - without any articles.

This is really something you can only learn by experience, after a certain point. It's a problem that all learners have whose first language doesn't have articles.

further to what Raymott said

When we say 'group is singular', "singular" is an adjective and 'the' doesn't precede the adjective when no noun follows the adjective.

But when there is a noun after the adjective 'the' is used.
"group" is the singular form.
