Hello!

I would like to start a discussion on a topic the modern world is concerned about most - Environmental Change and Natural Disasters.
Nowadays, many nations have to face the problems caused by Mother Nature, who (I will personify it) seems to be ready to take revenge for what we, humans, have done to her so far. Since it is a international problem, I'd like to ask a few questions, which might be of interest to the miltinational membership of this forum.

Have there been any natural disasters in your country (earthquakes, flooding, severe thunderstorms etc)? If so, what happened? What damage was caused? If you were a witness of the disaster, describe it in more detail from a personal perspective.

Can you think of any ways in which pollution is affecting the environment? Have you heard of any fresh scientific results, theories, research currently carried out, which back up the fact that man's impact on natural world has been underestimated?

What can be done about it? What possible solutions to the problem does the scientific community suggest?

Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the future? Why?

About a month ago we had kind of flooding in Tallinn (Estonia). It was the first time I had seen something close to real flooding. Cars - half-wheel in water - terrible :!:

But I can say that people did not panic much, and even the jokes appeared, something like "with joining the EU, we also joined European problems" Before that natural disasters passed us by.

Well Manifold let me inform you about some occurences in my country(Turkey).

You know acid rains which causes plants die in a wide range of area.

Some happened like that in the western part of Turkey in an industrial area and lots of involved with destruction. The destruction was caused by the SO2 Rain.

In the end there was an article about the event in one of newspapers and it has written '' What a mass, who bombed the factory?''

In China, there are many Natural Disasters like flooding, earthquakes and typhoon each year.A lot of people left their houses or even lost their lives, though we have taken steps to reduce the damage caused by our Mother Nature.
Our life is becoming more and more colorful at the cost of
the pollution of environment. That's what we are unwilling to see. :(
