a cold coffee

if i was drinking coffee and it became cold. can i just say"the coffee became cold"or should i use the present perfect tense?

If you are referring to something that happened a while back you use the past tense, as you have done.

If the coffee is still sitting there in front of you, you would say, "The coffee has become cold," or simply, "The coffee is cold."
