We ask people to tell us what they think are the answers and then will give our advice.

So which would you choose for each of these?

You should break the job into the smallest possible parts.

My apologies - I didn't realize that you had inserted your selection into the sentences.

#1 1.To do this exercise ..... ideal job into the smallest possible parts.

distribute = pass pieces of something to other people; shatter = reduce something to small pieces by vigorous action; batter = hit something repeatedly; which leaves "break". Normal usage would be "break down something into small pieces".

The sentence seems to be missing something as it does not quite make sense.

#2 Allocate your time so that you not only .... the demands of your clients but also have room to develop your business

achieve = to succeed in finishing something; keep = retain; reach = get to; meet = fulfil or satisfy. Of these the one that meets the requirements of the sentence is "meet".

#3 3.If your self-esteem is a direct ..... of your work situation, you'll feel inhumiliated when the going gets rough.

A.issue = a problem that is being discussed; B.impact = a powerful effect that something has on a situation or person; C.outline = a description of the main facts about something; D.outcome = a result or effect of an action, situation

"inhumiliated" is not a word - is it what was in your exercise?

If your self-steem is a direct outcome of your work situation, you'll feel humiliated when the going gets rough.

Thanks a lot to both of you,RonBee and Anglika!I wanted to ask a few more questions. Here's a type of exercise which I dislike because I never seem to pont out the right answer.I should point out where the mistake is in the sentence. There may be no error in the sentences.
1.The house(A) of Thomas Jefferson in Virginia is preserved much as it had been(B) when Jefferson lived(C) there.
2.When the police found him,the pilot was hiding(A) hungry, cold and lonely in(B) the hills of a strange country for(C) 6 days.
3.In the settling(A) of America it was imperative to build(B) quickly from materials at hand in order to give shelter to the new population, therefore, many new buildings had been made(C) of wood and have since deteriorated and vanished.
4.There are many possible suspects yet(A) the police realizes(B) that only one person commited(C) the crime.

I think that in the 1st sentence the misatke is in B.Maybe it's has been[/.I] . In the 2nd sentence-in (C) but I'm not sure what the correction is.For the 3 one I have no clue. And in the 4th maybe it's in (C).I suppose it should be has commited .

The house of Thomas Jefferson in Virginia is preserved much as it was when Jefferson lived there.

When the police found him, the pilot had been hiding hungry, cold, and lonely in the hills of a strange country for six days.

In the settling of America it was imperative to build quickly from materials at hand in order to give shelter to the new population, therefore many new buildings were made of wood and have since deteriorated and vanished.

There are many possible suspects, yet the police realize that only one person committed the crime.

I think that in the 1st sentence the misatke is in B.Maybe it's has been[/.I] It will be "as it was".

In the 2nd sentence-in (C) but I'm not sure what the correction is. A >> should be "had been hiding".

For the 3 one I have no clue. C >> "were made"

And in the 4th maybe it's in (C).I suppose it should be has commited . "Police" here is uncountable = singular verb, so B is wrong.

nb "committed"

1.Her choice of words caused me considerable A.distraction.B.disruption,C.disorder,D.distress.
2.Every time we are treated as an object,a thing which can be used by someone,we A.expose,B.convey,C.carry,D.suffer a threat to our survival as a person.
3.When you are waiting to be served and the sales people, busy with their A.concerns,B.cares,C.consideration,D.attention ignore you,you can feel a fear, which converts to abger.

I thing in the 1st one it is 'distress' since it means 'to hurt someone'.For the 2nd one I think it's 'suffer'.In the third sentence-I'm not really sure,I suppose it's 'concern' ot 'care'.In the 4 one-'acknowledge'.And in the last one' 'common'.

All your selections are correct.

There is one minor error in the answers for #3

3.When you are waiting to be served and the sales people, busy with their A.concerns,B.cares,C.consideration,D.attention ignore you,you can feel a fear, which converts to anger.

Usually we say "with their own concerns".

I have problems again with an exercise.I have to find the mistake in each sentence. It's possible that there is no mistake:

2.The report acknowledged that A.traffic growth would have unacceptable consequences for the environment but had B.a little to say C.on how the problem could be tackled.

8.A.Having a strong loyalty to my employers B.as well as not realizing the significance of what I had seen,I C.decided to keep the incident to myself.

I think in the 1'st one it's A.It should be without 'the' since it's in general. In the 2nd one it's on B.Maybe it should be just 'little'.In the 3 one maybe it's in B.But I'm not sure. And I really have no idea for the rest....:-(

You've done really well so far! Take a deep breath and try to finish off. If you do as well on the rest as with the first three, then you will have a 100% score.

Remember that there is not necessarily any mistake.

Apart from 7 - where it should be "had been using", there were no other errors, so you actually did very well.
