hi! everyone.
in the following question, a book says the answer is "in case it rains". but
i think that it should be "in case it rained" in terms of a sequence of tense like "I had a snack, just in case there was no time to eat later."
please give an explanation to me!

The lady took an umbrella with her in case it rains this afternoon.

thanks^^

"in case it rains" is a clause that tell "why" the lady took the umbrella.

The meaning of the sentence is that she TOOK the umbrella to be ready for something that might happen ( in the future.)

It could also be: The lady took her umbrella because she thought it might rain.
