I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

A journalist asked Bea, the wife a of a famous writer, what her husband was like. She told her that for the most he was kindhearted and caring, but sometimes he suffered bouts of depression. When those happened, it was advisable not talk to him at all and keep him at distance, otherwise, you would risk having a violent argument.

I would say, keep him at a distance. I notice nobody has mentioned this, so perhaps I am in the minority.
