I'm glad we've been bombed. It makes me feel I can look the East End in the face.

Yes, the first sentence needs a verb. The verb "made" would work.

The second sounds like one of the Royal family commenting on the bombing of a palace. Evidently, the bombing was worse in other places. This allowed the King/Queen to share in the misery.
