Is there any special usage of "a lot of( lots of) " in interrogative and negative sentences. In Russia in most school textbooks " a lot of ( lots of)" is recommended to use only in positive ( affirmative) sentences. I don't think so. I have come across sentences like this: Do you have a lot of friends working in here? He doesn't have lots of problems now. I would like to know if native speakers share my opinion or not.
Thanks in advance.

It's not a rule- you can use it. I'd ask Doesn't he have lots of friends? if I were surprised to hear that he didn't and had expected him to have lots.
