Are all three sentences OK:
I used to go to restaurants a lot.
I used to go to restaurants much.
I used to go to restaurants very much.

The first one is fine. However, much doesn't work very well there. Instead, say:
  • I used to go to restaurants quite often.
Or:
  • I used to go to restaurants quite frequently.
We don't usually use much as an adverb of frequency. However, you can say, "I don't do that very much anymore."

:)

Sometimes it must be used in formal English, because "a lot of" just doesn't cut it.

I don't use much much, but I use a lot a lot.

(I had to do it. How many chances was I going to get to say that?)

It is possible, though I'd use an alternative where I could.;-)

In "much wisdom", "much" is an adjective. In "I don't go there much." it is an adverb.
